October 5th Membership Meeting at Hidden Cypress Features 160m Antenna
Not too many of us have operated on 160 meters…certainly not since getting to SCHH!
But, it can be done. Want to learn how? Come to our Membership Meeting on October 5th to see a presentation by Rick Garan, WA8NLX.
The monthly Membership Meeting will begin after Rick’s presentation.
The meeting will be at Hidden Cypress with a tee time of 7 PM. Check the monitor at Hidden Cypress that evening to see what room we’ll be in…or, just look for familiar faces…or all of the above.

Club Fair This Saturday! SCHH ARC Looks to Attract New Members
SCHH is a dynamic community. We have lots of people moving here all the time. Some of our new residents may be licensed hams. Others may have always wanted to be a ham or may look to include ham radio in their bucket list after learning more about our hobby.
Our ARC will be participating in the October 7th Chartered Club Fair this coming weekend. The ARC’s table will be outside of the back doors of Pinckney Hall, near the courtyard. We’ll set up around 9 AM and take down around 2 PM.
Our Club Fair efforts will be led by Ron Frick (AI4HH). Ed Stratton (W1ZZ), Frank Pollino (K2OS), Bob McCormick (KD8IH), Jim Shaner (NH6BS), and Harve Hnatiuk (KB3FW) have volunteered to help as well.
Ham radio is a great hobby and we have a super ARC. If you would like to help to get that message out to our SCHH community, please “join the party” and participate with your ARC at the Club Fair.
Help will be needed at 9 AM for set up and after 2 PM for take-down as well as for being a “radio ambassador” during the Fair for whatever time you can spare between 10AM and 2 PM this coming Saturday.

POTA Milestone for K2ITZ
Congratulations to Jack Frisch, K2ITZ, for reaching the rare air of 2,000 unique parks worked while hunting POTA stations.
Jack’s number is up to 2,047 as of Sunday afternoon (10/1/23). He has also successfully completed five activations of parks, four in NC and one here in SC.
We are giving Jack a laurel here but please do give him a hearty handshake at Thursday’s meeting to congratulate him.
A quick look at others in the SCHH ARC for POTA numbers: AC4DH (Dennis Hopkins) has 898 unique parks as a hunter; KB3FW (Harve Hnatiuk) has 640 unique parks; KN8F (Ken Finke) has 98: K2OS (Frank Pollino) has 63. Apologies if anyone was missed…if you have some POTA stats to share, please let Harve know (hnat463@gmail.com).
4th Annual Youth “Dream Rig” Essay Contest

ARRL EME Contest
From the Earth to the Moon and Back! Frank Pollino, K2OS, is leading this effort for the Club. More details the ARRL contest can be found here. Current plans are to operate from Lake Somerset on the afternoon of Saturday, November 25th. More details will follow when we get into late October/early November. So please stay tuned!
