SCHH ARC “This & That” – April 30, 2024
Membership Meeting Thursday, May 2nd, with Two Presentations!
For the second consecutive month, SCHH ARC members will be treated to two presentations to kick off our monthly gathering in the Bayside Room at the Lakehouse.
The first presentation of the evening begins at 6:45 PM. Lon Seward, WB4KSG, will show us how he and his wife, Judy, found both hidden transmitters during our recent Fox Hunt.
Following Lon’s “Elmer Presentation”, Rob Sherwood, NC0B, will be “Zooming In” most likely from his QTH in Ault, CO. Rob runs Sherwood Engineering. Since 1976, he had been testing ham radio transceivers and evaluating them. Some of his work can be found at http://www.sherweng.com/table.html. He’ll tell us more about what he has been doing and hopefully give us the lowdown on the more popular transceivers that are now available. Rob is a serious ham radio operator. If you don’t believe that, take a look at his antenna farm! Not quite what we see in SCHH!
Following Rob’s program, we will hold our monthly membership meeting.
Please note that the first presentation will begin at 6:45 PM.
SCHH ARC Well-Represented at Last Saturday’s CARS Swap Meet Near SAV
Saturday’s weather cooperated well for the conductance of the Coastal Amateur Radio group’s annual Swap Meet near the Savannah airport.
Several club members made the trip down I-95 to sell some used equipment for their or the Okatie Repeater Association’s benefit. ORA picked up a few bucks and at least one of our members brought home a used ICOM 7300 to get back on the HF bands.
As the saying goes: It was all good!
Some photos from Saturday near SAV are included below. In addition to the members shown in the photos. Dan Mclaughlin, K4DNY, was also as the Swap Meet.
National Thrust for HOA Ham Radio Antennas
This from the CWOps email forum:
ARRL has bills before Congress (HR 4006 and S. 3690) to help hams who live in HOA situations. Do you know anyone at NAB, Red Cross, Salvation Army, MARS, NCTA, WIA, etc., who might be helpful (we need letters of support on stationery).

SCHH ARC Nets Going Strong!
Thanks to all who participate.
These are our nets. Enjoy them. They are very special and give us the opportunity to connect with each other while testing our equipment’s connectivity capabilities.
Russ Treadwell, N1ZK, is taking a sabbatical from our net for a bit. Frank Pollino, K2OS, will help to fill the net control slots that Russ had been handling. We wish Russ all the best and hope to have him back with us on the nets soon!
We thank Frank for agreeing to help.
The nets have had some EchoLink issues lately but it is hoped that these will be ironed out for this week’s activity and beyond. Please be patient if issues arise and know that they are being tackled as quickly and as well as can be done.
Please keep our nets alive and well by checking in when we can.
