SCHH ARC “This & That” – August 13 , 2024

Hunting Island Outing Results in 39 QSOS

The final tally for the SCHH ARC’s Hunting Island activation of our KE4HAM club call sign is in: 39 contacts across four different bands (10m, 17m, 20m, and 40m). Contacts were made with other stations in 20 different states in the US and also with a station in the Dominican Republic.

Setting up four stations with antennas in record time, the group then battled band conditions and each other’s signals to achieve very good results.

Bob Officer (WA6WAY) and Bob McCormick (KD8IH) setting up the 10m dipole.

Band conditions were not great but the club made 15 contacts in 10m SSB, which represents a “high mark” for recent operations.

Frank Pollino (K2OS) and Gwen Fox (KN4VWQ) at the 10m operating position.

SSB operations netted 26 QSOs across three bands.

Ken Finke (KN8F) set up and capably operated the 20m SSB station.

CW work on 17m and 20m accounted for 13 QSOs.

Four stations on the air in the Hunting Island Pavilion.

The club’s POTA activation was originally submitted without having the 10m log on August 4th. We successfully updated our POTA log to include the 10m contacts yesterday.

As usual, a day of ham radio field operations provided several lessons learned. One thing it did prove was that the SCHH ARC is a dedicated group of hams who enjoy working together to make things happen. Thanks to all for making it so.

KE4HAM Logbook of the World Stats

KE4HAM is not threatening the DXCC realm but is making solid progress toward earning a “Worked All States” award.

We are about a tenth of the way for the Century Club. Our most exotic DX contact was with Reunion Island, which is east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean.

As for WAS, we have 38 states in the book!

What states do we need? At least one of the usual suspects and a few more that should be relatively easy to get: Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, and of course, Wyoming!

We may pick up a few more states from our most recent activation on Hunting Island as other stations continue to upload their logs to LoTW in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!!

SCHH on Parks on the Air

KE4HAM Reaches the Gold Standard!

The club’s POTA contacts are spread across 13 states and 2 countries and 7 Park-to-Park contacts.

KE4HAM also now has two successful POTA activations.

SCHH ARC Nets – Time to Get On-Board!

We are midway through August and what better time to begin to or to resume to checking in to our SCHH ARC nets.

EchoLink has been working well and our check-ins through that service have been good.

You know, the nets are only as good as we make them.

Please check in this coming week and let everyone know what you’ve been doing.

These are our nets. Enjoy them. They are very special and give us the opportunity to connect with each other on a regular basis while testing our equipment’s connectivity capabilities.

Please keep our nets alive and well by checking in when you can.

Weekly SCHH ARC Nets

Sunday’s Net (8 PM) operates on 147.550 MHz simplex  except for the first two Sundays of the calendar month. The Sunday net will be on the KE4HAM repeater (147.135 + with a tone of 91.5 on both the input and the output) on the first two Sundays of the calendar month. Check-in can be done even if you don’t have a radio up and running via EchoLink by using the link KE4HAM-L when the net is on SIMPLEX and KE4HAM-R when the net is on the SCHH Okatie Repeater.

Wednesday‘s Net (8 PM) operates through the KK4ONF/Jasper repeater, 147.060+. The net can be accessed via EchoLink using the link KE4HAM-R.
