Hunting Island Field Trip Just Over Two Weeks Away!

Club Plans to Operate KE4HAM Near the Lighthouse for POTA and NLLW on August 3rd

SCHH ARC Event Offers Members an Opportunity to See a Jewel of the Low Country

For the third consecutive year, the SCHH ARC will spend an August Saturday at Hunting Island State Park operating KE4HAM. This year’s outing will be on August 3rd. The club will do a Parks on the Air activation and a National Lighthouses and Lightships Weekend activation from the Picnic Pavilion near the lighthouse.

Initial plans are to operate four stations, one on CW and three on SSB.

Admission to the state park is $5 per person for senior citizens. Lunch will be provided for a nominal cost of $5 per person to cover the purchase of hot dogs, buns, condiments, soft drinks, water, chips, and a pastry.

Picnic Pavilion is near the lighthouse and to the left of the “trail” from beach.

Your RSVP is needed so that enough food and drinks, etc. can be brought for our group. Please let Jack Frisch, K2ITZ (jfrisch40@gmail.com) or Harve Hnatiuk, KB3FW (hnat463@gmail.com) know if you are coming to the event no later than Wednesday, July 31st.

Looking forward to seeing many members on Hunting Island in early August!

SC Operators Tally Over 26,000 QSOs in 2024 K2L Operations

K2L represented SC very well during this year’s 13 Colonies special event. Thirty-two SC hams participated in the K2L operations. The team tallied 26,211 contacts while using CW, SSB, Digital (FT4 and FT8), and FM modes.

K2L’s log has been sent to the Special Events Coordinator, hoping that the team’s efforts once again wins first prize among the colonies!

13 Colonies Clean Sweep for KN8F

Congratulations to Ken Finke, KN8F, for getting a Clean Sweep during this year’s 13 Colonies Special Event.

KN8F, Ken Finke, operates on CW, SSB, and Digital Modes and is an accomplished DXer and Contester

Ken worked all thirteen colonies as well as two of the three bonus stations (WM3PEN and TM13COL) in one day! His K2L QSO (or at least one of his K2L QSOs) was with KB3FW, operating with the K2Lteam, on CW.

Ken joins Jack Frisch, K2ITZ, and Harve Hnatiuk, KB3FW as club members who reported a Clean Sweep during the July 1-7 event.

Jack Frisch, K2ITZ, does more than POTA…he too achieved a Clean Sweep during 13 Colonies 2024.

Silent Key: Allan Smith, KK4UBG

Allan Smith, KK4UBG, a long-time resident of SCHH and a past member of our ARC passed away yesterday. All who knew Allan recall his kind and gentle nature. He generously loaned the ARC his generator for Field Day and, for many years, was a regular check-in to our nets. Additional details will be sent to all members via email when they become available.
